Importing your saved titles lists from the old catalog https://www.krl.org/faqs/importing-your-saved-titles-lists-from-the-old-catalog/ Tue, 08 Aug 2023 16:11:34 +0000 https://www.krl.org/?post_type=bccms_faq&p=6288 When your first register your account, you will be asked if you would like to import items from your Saved Titles List in the old catalog to your For Later Shelf in the new catalog. Select Import List Items to begin the import. You can also do this later from the For Later Shelf. All imported items will be marked private.

You may notice a difference between the number of items on your list in the old catalog and the number of imported items that appear on your For Later Shelf. This can happen because of adjustments made to the catalog records during the transition. If you had multiple Saved Title Lists in the old catalog, they will be merged when they are imported and will appear as one list on your For Later Shelf.

Once your import is complete, you can sort your items, moving them to your completed and in-progress shelves. You can also use your import as inspiration for new lists, using the Lists, opens a new window feature.

How is my privacy protected on the website and catalog? https://www.krl.org/faqs/how-is-my-privacy-protected-on-the-website-and-catalog/ Fri, 05 May 2023 20:43:03 +0000 https://www.krl.org/?post_type=bccms_faq&p=4316 Protecting your right to privacy and confidentiality is essential to intellectual freedom and our mission. Your new catalog lets you share what you're reading, watching and loving at the Library. We want to ensure you understand what you're sharing and what is kept private. Make sure to review your privacy settings when you create your account.

Always Private:

  • Your current checkouts, holds and fees.
  • Your library card number and password.
  • Your borrowing history - if you've enabled it.

Borrowing History
Borrowing history lets you view all items you’ve checked out. By default, the Library does not retain your borrowing history. You can save your borrowing history by enabling this feature within your account setting. If this option is selected, your borrowing history will remain confidential per our policies. You can disable your borrowing history anytime, which will also delete your history. Once your Borrowing History is deleted, it cannot be retrieved. Update your settings at My Settings > Account Setting > Borrowing History.

Shelves
Shelves allow you to track titles you’ve enjoyed or would like to enjoy. Shelves are private by default. You can make specific items private even if you make your shelves public. Private notes and personal tags for any title will always be private. Removing a title from your shelf will remove your ratings and comments as well. Update your settings at My Settings > Privacy > My Shelves.

Activity Feed
Your activity feed is public by default. Your feed displays items added to your public shelves and lists, comments and ratings you’ve added to specific titles and lists and comments by others you follow. Make your feed private at My Settings > Privacy > My Feeds.

Lists
A list is a collection of titles related to a specific topic or idea. After you create your list, set the privacy settings. You have multiple options, including making the list private.

Your library records are protected by state law (RCW 42.56.310, RCW 42.56.210). Unless required by law or requested by you, the Library does not share information about your records.

Why did you update the website and catalog? https://www.krl.org/faqs/why-did-you-update-the-website-and-catalog/ Fri, 28 Apr 2023 23:11:30 +0000 https://www.krl.org/?post_type=bccms_faq&p=4056 When we launched the previous iteration of KRL.org, it exceeded our expectations and achieved our goals for staff and users. Over time, technology has advanced and offers more solutions for creating the best possible online user experience. When we started exploring opportunities, we knew we wanted to update the patron’s user experience for both our website and catalog. For this, we selected BiblioCommons, which provides library technology solutions focused on creating the best possible online user experience.

BiblioCommons is one of a few companies currently addressing the user experience holistically, catalog and website together. We were also excited about their commitment to accessibility. Their collection of technology solutions works in concert, for both our patrons and staff, improving usability for everyone. Because their focus is only on libraries, their products and solutions are developed with the unique needs of libraries and our patrons in mind. And because they work with many libraries nationally, they can use the data and patron feedback to continuously evolve what they offer to adapt to growing and future needs.

We hope you will enjoy:

  • Easier Search & Navigation: Research topics and find information seamlessly.
  • Improved Events Calendar: Discover events and classes that fit your schedule.
  • Helpful FAQs: Find answers to some of your burning questions.
  • Mobile-friendly Access: Explore KRL.org on the go with any mobile device.

Have a compliment, question or feedback? We'd love to hear from you! Share your thoughts. Need help? Use Book-a-Librarian to meet with a librarian one-on-one to get all your questions answers.
