What are the side effects of SkinPen-Microneedling?

Microneedling or CIT- Collagen Induction Therapy is a non-laser skin resurfacing to make your skin look plump, smooth, and glowing. Microneedling works by causing tiny needle puncture the top layer of your skin so that it can trigger collagen and elastin production.

The most commonly reported complications of microneedling are redness, swelling, peeling and sunburn appearance for 24 hours.

Some of the rare complications of microneedling include infections, bruising, the break out of a cold sore. Therefore Retin-A, Chemical peels, aspirin, and NSAID should be avoided for a week. If you suffer from cold sore consider taking Prophylactic Valtrex.

What are the most common side effects of Coolsculpting?

There are very few side effects when you are treated with Coolsculpting Cooladvantage applicators. The most common side effects are slight tenderness and numbness after the procedure.

The older Coolsculpting applicators caused more pain, discomfort, bruising and numbness but with our new applicators the side effects are minimal. Our office offers a FREE Z-Wave treatment with each Coolsculpting treatment which reduces the post procedure discomfort.

During the procedure one might experience deep pulling, tugging, pinching, numbness or discomfort. After the procedure, typical side effects include temporary numbness, redness, swelling, bruising, firmness, tingling, stinging and maybe a slight pain.

The CoolSculpting fat reduction procedure is not for everyone. One should NOT get the CoolSculpting procedure if they are suffering from cryoglobulinemia or paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria.

The numbness after Coolsculpting is a transient phenomenon, some people may experience up to even 6 to 8 wks. Can you reduce the risk of Bruising with Coolsculpting?

Coolsculpting with old applicators were known to cause more bruising, swelling, and pain. Zeltiq has introduced various types of new Cooladvantage applicators that are suitable for every body shape and area. If you were treated with Cool advantage plus, it should cause less bruising and less discomfort.

The key factor is to choose the correct applicators (core vs curve) and place them while the patient is in an optimal position to reduce the side effects.

I am a 60-year-old woman who was diagnosed about 15 years ago with Lichen Sclerosus. I also suffered a significant infection and menopause.
